SCIENTIFIC NAME: DRACAENA COMPACTA Like the name suggests, this plant looks like the top of a pineapple. Dracaena compacta is most commonly used as a landscape plant or in terrariums. Dracaena compacta has been used as an aquarium plant also because of its ability to be submerged for short periods of time. Pineapple Plant, as it is more commonly known, should only be submerged for periods of up to a month and then grown emersed to regenerate. Dracaena compacta would be a good choice for topping betta bowls. Easy to care for, this Dracaena plant will tolerate many abuses, but not soggy soil. Water thoroughly, allowing the top inch (2.5 cm) of the soil to dry out between waterings. Use a pot with a drainage hole or a terrarium with proper drainage to prevent wet soil. Moderate to bright light is best for this species. Keep this plant out of direct sunlight which can scorch its leaves, leaving brown marks. Pale leaves can indicate that light is too low.
