Hey Everyone,
I'm sure the main question on everyone's minds right now is "How are the new tarriff's going to affect fish prices?". Short answer: We don't know yet. Longer answer: We have been on the phone with our suppliers overseas pretty much nonstop since the tariffs were announced. So far, we aren't sure exactly what's going to happen. Some countries are far higher than others, so there may be entire countries we can no longer afford to import from. There may be things we can do to mitigate the impact like sourcing certain fish through different countries than we've historically used. But again, at this moment in time, I currently have no definite answers for you unfortunately. We will need to just cross our fingers and see how things shape out in the next week or two. I will say though, that we do already have this upcoming week's import shipments already lined up, and so those are going through as normal no matter what. So you've got one more week of normality before we probably start seeing impacts in some form or another.
**personal opinion here***.... if I owned a store right now, I would think the smart thing to do would be placing an order with all of my suppliers this week and buying 3 or 4 times as much as I normally do. I would be "stocking up" on fish you know you'll need that come from overseas like guppies, mollies, platies, dwarf gouramis, all rasboras, all oscars (if you can find any), fancy shrimp, bichirs, sharks, loaches, etc. I would be finding whatever financially possible way I could to get some massive orders into the store.
On the fish side, we have some of the nicest Discus I've seen come through in ages here right now! We ordered a slightly larger size (3 inch instead of 2-2.5) and it makes a gigantic difference in the color and quality of the fish. Check out the pics further down the email.
The thing that most of you will probably be most excited about are likely to be the central/south American cichlids that came in. I've got a good number of large Green Terrors, roughly 5 inches. Great size and color. Also have for the first time in a couple years some True Festae (Red Terror) available at the small size. Also got in a good number of 5 inch Geo Heckelli, Geo Brasiliensis, and Red Devils. So we're pretty well stocked on big mean fish right now, especially if you're open to substitutions.
Bread and butter tetras are almost all running nice at the moment. Blue Kerri, Black Phantoms, and Buenos Aires are all running huge and super impressive. The black phantoms in particular are exceptional, I'd stock up on those while they're nice. Bloodfins are back in stock after being extremely hit or miss for the past few months. Red Eye Tetras are also back in stock and have been getting tough to keep in stock every week.
A lot of Livebearers are coming in fantastic too. XL Swordtails are back on the list, and while they're NOT really super huge, the price is only slightly higher than the standard mix so they're definitely worth the small markup. Dalmation and Creamsicle mollies are both arriving in good size lately and have been holding up well.
We didn't get a Colombia shipment last week, but we did have a couple vats of Punctatus cory cats from two weeks ago that became available to sell, and those are the best value cory we've got at the moment. Hifin greens are also available tank raised from Asia.
Check out the pictures and writeups about the specifics below and give your rep a call if you have any questions

Blue Kerri Tetras are one of the best looking tetras in the hobby. They're an Emperor-type with the nice big body. The purple color on these is one of the only true purples I've seen in the animal kingdom making them very unique. |
Buenos Aires Tetras are running very large. These make great tankmates for cichlids since they're big and robust and strong swimmers. |
Lemon Tetras are always limited when they do come in, so I expect these to go quick! Another great community tetra with nice yellow coloration, very unique. |
Bloodfins are back for 2 weeks in a row! I hope this means the local Florida farm is getting back into them and will have them for us every week again like it used to be a few years ago. |
Red Eye Tetras have been tough to get enough of. We have a restock today, but last week none were available. Size is good, but I expect to run out by Wednesday. |
Black Phantoms are still one of the best looking tetras here. Males especially have super high fins and dark black color, looking awesome. |
Gold Pristella are a very overlooked tetra. They're big, colorful, and stand out. I'd recommend trying these if you haven't already. Bred here on our farm. |
Assorted Platies came in looking absolutely perfect. I'm not seeing any sickly looking fish in the batch, and the colors are super bright and attractive. Honestly I'd just order the mix this week. |
Sunset Platies are also great, all super bright yellow and orange like these in the photo. |
Blue Butterfly Moon Platy are a new type we've brought in a couple times now. They look really cool, with the MM tails and blue/yellow coloration. |
XL Swordtails are restocked. This is about the average size, so you can see they're not monstrous fully grown beasts of swordtails, but they're very nice. |
Some of the females in the XL swords ARE pretty huge, like this girl we pulled out for a pic. Really interesting color too. |
Dalmation LT Mollies have been running consistently bigger than normal. These are a great pick for a molly this week, in either LT or standard tail. |
Creamsicle mollies are usually one of the less attention grabbing varieties, but they definitely do have a nice color when you look at them. The orange and white combo looks especially nice in a planted tank or on a black background. |
Balloon Red Eyes are back in stock, and absolutely adorable. The eyes seem much brighter on the balloon fish than they do on the normal Red Eye tetras, so that's a nice selling point for people that aren't crazy about the deformed bodies. |
Balloon Rams are still coming in consistently much brighter in color than the normal blue rams. I'd definitely recommend these even if you don't like balloon fish. |
Blue Tiger Parrots got a little bigger this week, much better value than when they show up tiny like they had been recently. |
Dojo Loaches are restocked in both colors. |
Don't forget about Leopard Ctenapomas! Really cool oddball fish that sells well enough that even the chain stores carry them. |
New shrimp breed for this week, "Pumpkin". They definitely look way different from the other orange shrimp we've had in the past. |
Gold Rams are back in stock! I think it's been close to a year, but they're finally back and Florida Bred! Size is a little on the small side, which is to be expected for something that hasn't been available for a while. |
German Blue Rams are also back in stock from Florida. |
Gold Gourami are FL bred and healthy. They're running a little smaller than the Blues or Opalines. |
Red Honey are still coming in insanely bright and cool looking. Probably the best I've seen Honey Gouramis ever look. |
Sunset Thicklip gouramis are another dwarf type, but they're Florida Bred, so they hold up a lot better than the powder blues or the red fires. |
Madagascar Rainbowfish are very unique among the rainbows, these are long like a cigar minnow. Males get lots of red in the fins, and they get gold "flakes" in the body. |
Central/South American Cichlids
Carpintis Escondidos are back! These are the best looking of all the Texas cichlid types, and a true form wild fish. They get around 8 inches and can be really aggressive when they're big. They're currently about 3-3.5 inches and already in full coloration. |
We had 4 inch Cuban cichlids last week, and added 3 inch to the list as well this week. One of the coolest looking CA Cichlids when adults. |
This is a pic of Brody's adult Festae aka True Red Terror Cichlids. We do NOT have these at this size but what we do have are juveniles from the same bloodlines. This one of the most stunning Cichlids there is. Female is on the left, male is on the right. |
Large Green Terrors are back, and always sell out lightning fast. Get your orders packed Monday or Tuesday to make sure you get these guys. Some stores out there will literally try to order 24 from us at one time, so we go from having an OK number in stock to sold out immediately sometimes. |
5" Red Devil are all the piebald types. Some are very white like this one, some are more "creamsicle" colored like the one below. |
5" Heckelii are back and the streamers on the males are fantastic. These are true show quality fish, and the best part is they get along with each other in a group without many problems. |
Albino Red Fire Peacocks are still here and still stunning. I think almost the only big colored Peacocks or Haps that are left, actually. Almost everything else sold out last week. |
Medium Assorted Haps are still in stock. Looks like a mix of Nimbochromis types as well as Taiwan Reefs, Red Empress, and Ahlis. |
Assorted Large Haps are still here, and the best value for a colorful African Cichlid. |
Another Example of a Large Mixed hap. |
Premium OB Peacocks like this awesome "blueberry" type are still available in small numbers. Might sell out this week, so if you're on the fence, might be your last chance for a couple months till we restock this. |
Medium Nyereri are as eye catching as ever. We're selling them as mixed sex, but it's probably 90% males. |
an example of the fantastic new 3 inch assorted discus that we brought in. Every fish in the tub looks good enough that I'd personally buy them. |
Another 3 inch assorted |

Another 3 Inch Assorted |
This is an example of the Pigeonblood that are currently available. The supplier sent us two types together, so you might get fish like this one, or you might get fish like the below one. I like both, personally. They're listed as 2.5 inch but they're a little oversized. |
here's what came in as the "Cobalt". They're definitely blue, but look to have some patterning on the body as well. Not a solid blue fish. |
Small Royal Pleco still here, even without a restock from Colombia last week. So these that are left have been here at least 2 weeks by the time you get them. Very hardy wild plecos. |
Burmese Sun Catfish are often overlooked, but a very attractive little catfish. They stay relatively small (for a catfish) and are active during the day once they realize that's when you feed them. |
HF Green Cory cats are very neat looking. The fins are a nice red color on these. I'm not sure how making them a longfin version changes the fin color, probably via hybridization, but regardless they're cool. |
Punctatus Cory Cats are the only new Cory this week. These came in two weeks ago, so they should be as sturdy as they come by now. |
