Hey Everyone,
Peru is here! Peru Is here! Peru is here! Due to seasonal weather and shipping schedule restraints we haven't gotten a shipment out of there in months. But the wait is finally over and boy was it worth it. Lot's of new stuff as well as a couple of staple items.
We'll start with my personal favorite, the Sunset Apistos. I get asked all the time why don't we get more wild Apistos? The answer is because most of them come in very small and colorless. That isn't the case with these. There are certainly some smaller females in the mix but there are also dominant males in there already showing off their bright colors. One of my all time favorite dwarf cichlids. Speaking of cichlids we also got in Geophagus Jurapari. Once upon a time these were the most commonly available of all the eartheaters. But that hasn't been the case in recent years due mostly the widespread availability of Florida raised Geos such as Surinamensis and Heckelii (yes I know the latter isn't technically a Geo). And most of the ones coming out of Colombia tend to have a lot of Daemons in the mix. But I can assure you this batch is 100% Jurapari.
One of the most unique and bizarre species to arrive on this shipment are the Cetopsis Candiru aka Blue Dolphin Cat. These are one of the most unique looking carnivorous scavengers on the planet. They have a stretched out body with bright purple coloration. They almost look like a Purple Tilefish from saltwater. In addition to these we got in several other species of catfish including Driftwood Cats. Aptly named as that's exactly what they look like. And unlike the above mentioned these guys are relatively peaceful as long as they're kept with tankmates too big to swallow. We also got in some gigantic Banjo Cats. Probably the most sedentary catfish species there is. I would have to write on their tank "no, they're not dead. That's just what they do" lol. We also got in Lima Shovelnose which stay much smaller and more manageable than their Tiger cousins.
On this shipment we also got in what will probably be the first to sell out, Sabertooths. These sharp fanged predators have always maintained massive popularity amongst hobbyists. A lot less toothy but also super popular are the South American Lungfish. Very small for now, these guys grow up to be one of the most impressive display species out there. And last but definitely not least are the Adonis Plecos. While they do eventually grow to a relatively large size, they have very slow metabolisms and take quite some time to reach maturity. These came in at a perfect size. Not so small where they're frail but not big enough to come in all tattered from fighting.
As usual we did get in a nice Indo shipment this week as well. We also got a restock on Archers but these are going to be extremely limited so order early. But I have to say the one item most people are going be excited about from the far east are the Sewellia Loaches. We haven't had these in a hot minute as the kids say. We got in as many as were available but I sincerely doubt it's enough so don't sleep on these.
Lots of great items in ALL categories this week but too much to list here so be sure to reach out to your rep if you have any questions.

Don't forget about our Every Day Low Price Specials! Running all summer long, we have the following 10 fish on a crazy discount for you. Use this unchanging group of most popular special fish to run your own BOGO sales, or whatever you need to do to get people in the door or get big sales in this slower Summer part of the year.
White and Black Skirt Tetras Neon Tetras Algae Eaters Veil Bettas Reg Mix Angelfish Red Fantails And assorted Platies, Mollies, and Swordtails! |
Sabertooth Tetra (Payara) are probably the most recognizable fish from Peru, super popular with the predatory community. These things can eat a fish almost the same size they are, and they're almost exclusively fish eaters. This size can eat medium/large feeder comets no problem so be careful what you house them with. |
Sunset Apistogrammas are the nicest looking wild apisto, I'm convinced of it. They're always super nice like this every time we get them, with many males in full red color already, and the females have a lot of yellow in the fins. Excellent purchase for any store that likes to have "cool stuff" to stand out from the chain stores. |
Wild Geophagus Jurapari are in, and look to all be correctly Jurapari this time (sometimes they come in mixed with Daemons, but I don't see any thing time). |
Adonis Plecos are EXCELLENT this shipment. Maybe the best I've seen for the price. Normally they're either microscopically tiny, or they're huge and way more expensive. These are the perfect middle ground where they're big enough to have no color still and have awesome tail streamers, but not big enough that they had to reduce the pack in in the bags making the price go up. |
Skunk (Arcuatus) Cory are the best wild cory this week. We have hundreds of them, so we should have more than enough for at least a full week of sales, maybe two. |
Lima Shovelnose are the shovelnose catfish from Peru, and are honestly better pets than Tiger Shovelnose which are the more popular species. Limas stay MUCH smaller and so are much more tank-appropriate, unlike Tigers which need a multiple thousand gallon pond built for them at some point. Careful when handling, their fins will spike you and it doesn't feel great to get jabbed by them. |
We got the biggest Banjo Catfish I've ever seen on this Peru shipment. Easily double the size of a normal banjo out of Colombia. |
Side view of the Banjo |
Threadfin Farlowellas are something we don't get too often. And I don't know if I've EVER seen them come in at this size before. normally they're massive geriatric adults, these are spunky young ones. |
This one is sort of a mystery, honestly. They're some sort of Wood Catfish, but your guess is as good or maybe better than ours (nobody that works here are catfish enthusiasts). Size is good ,about 4 inches, and they look pretty darn neat. In the tanks here' they're very active, swimming all over the water column. |
It's hard to see because they're so dark, but these are South American Lungfish. They actually get some cool gold spots all over that look quite attractive. |
Sewellia Hillstream Loaches are back finally! I'm sure they're going to fly out of here since they haven't been available for months. |
The Rainbow Dace must be feeling the love in the water, because the males are coloring up now, and they're looking super intense. |
Green Scats came in again, but came in quite small. The good news is at this size they should adapt very easily to pure freshwater. |
Tiger Datnoids are looking better and better with time. |
Zodiac Loaches are still here, surprisingly. One of the cooler looking little bottom feeders, and the price is almost as attractive as the fish. |
Rainbow Gobies are back in stock! I absolutely love these guys. They're related to the Neon Blue Stiphodon gobies, and are a true freshwater goby. These are great size, about 3 inches, and showing plenty of color. |
SOME of the Colombian tetras are these absolutely monstrous sized breeders. We put them on special anyway because we have about 8 tanks full of Colombian Tetras, and only 3 of the 8 tanks are these huge guys, so about half of the people that order them are going to get normal sized tetras instead. |
Peruvian Blue Tetras are awesome! Much larger and much more blue than the tank raised ones we got from Indo last week, and definitely worth the price increase. A group of these in a display tank with a bunch of plants would definitely catch people's eye, most customers will never have even seen this species of tetra before. |
Red Eyes got marked back on the list this week, and as a bonus are running way oversized. |
Black Phantoms I'm almost tired of highlighting, but you need to know what looks best, and the reality is these have been one of the best looking tetras for the last month straight. |
Blind Cave Tetras are running oversized as well, great oddball tetra |
Longfin Serpaes look great right now too, coming in with very nice finnage. |
Albino Cherry Barbs are back, and HUGE! It's been a solid 6 months since last time we had these in stock. |
Assorted Lyretail Swords are back in stock and a good looking batch. |
Pineapple Swordtails are the nice light pink type this batch. |
Calico Swordtails are back in stock. This strain is always a little undersized, but they're one of the best looking colors so they're still one I would recommend. |
Velvet Swordtails came in pretty cool this week. Not a true deep velvet like the Florida strain, but they're a very pretty super bright red I think most people would like. |
2.5-3 inch mix |
leopard |
Pigeonblood |
Red Turq, came in extra, extra red this time |
Central/South American Cichlids
Still sitting on a couple 5 inch Brasiliensis. |
Rare fish alert! Regular sized bartoni are in for the first time ever! Price is probably too cheap on them, so grab them quick. When we got the adults in a few months back (the actual parents of these guys) they were gone in a week. |
Gold Jaguars are back as well. Price is the same as the Bartoni, so an excellent value for a very rare fish you likely can't get anywhere else. |
Medium and Large Green Terrors are back! These always fly out the door (especially the mediums) so have your order pack early in the week to ensure you get some. |
Tank Raised Rainbow Severums are absolutely beautiful. Tons of red color already even at this young size (about 2.5 inches). |
Wild Oscars are looking better than ever. It blows my mind that anyone would buy normal tank raised small oscars over these. I think these are even cheaper than the TR oscars as well, but have WAY cooler looking patterns and colors. |

Mixed Medium Male Peacocks (FL bred) |
Mixed Medium Male Peacock (FL bred) although clearly this one is hybridized with a hap of some type. Your customers shouldn't care though, looks awesome, still has the same value. |
Another Florida mixed Medium Peacock with some Hap blood hybridized in there. |
Fancy Regular mix Mbunas are back in stock and always super popular. This mix has some really nice fish in there, and mostly males with full color like this guy here. |
Regular Mixed Haps are a popular and inexpensive option to get some nice variety in African Cichlids for a great price. Already starting to color up! |
have I believe one left of these giant Royal Plecos. |
Small Green Phantoms are still hanging around from last Colombia shipment, not many left on these either. |
Punctatus Cory cat are big fat and healthy looking. |
Melanistus Cory are also still here from last week's Colombia shipment, and you can see theres almost no difference between these and the punctatus. I guess punctatus have a slightly darker blotch at the base of the dorsal fin, otherwise almost identical. |
