Hey folks,
Just a reminder, the GloFish® Moonrise Pink® Cory launch is in less than two weeks! These are one of the most exciting items to launch so far! They really have to be seen in person in order to truly appreciate them. We took another pic of them just using an iPhone without any kind of filter setting and they still looked amazing. Size should be really good on these for the launch as they have been growing here for a bit. Think all of your customers are going to love them!
Things should start picking up as the weather continues to transition closer into winter. Parts of the Midwest are already forecasting for snow next week which is always a good thing for our hobby. And one thing to keep in mind as the cold weather hits and people will be looking for something to do after stuffing their faces with turkey on Thanksgiving, start planning a Black Friday Sale. It's not just for big retailers. I've seen a lot of stores have a lot of success with this. Don't need to open early, just offer an incentive for customers to stop in while they are already out and about. If you're not running a sale that weekend, you're losing out on one of the best weekends of the year, and quite frankly it makes no sense. Use our EDLP specials to run B1G1 promos and you'll still be making profit while getting people in the door that wouldn't otherwise be in your store. Put a steep discount on a few fish you've had living in your shop for 4 months, time to get them gone and let their tank make you some money. My old store owner I worked under in retail used to say "every tank of fish needs to pay their rent....if you haven't sold a fish out of the tank in a month, get rid of them for something that will sell". He's not wrong.
Ok, now that's all out of the way on to the fish. Never ceases to amaze me how each and every week we manage to get in some great items from each and every category. We'll start with the far east and while it may not be a new item it is a much welcomed favorite, Blood Parrots. This weeks batch are particularly nice as they are really nice size with fantastic color. Next up is another crowd pleaser, Choprai Danios. Another not exactly rare species but most certainly noteworthy. You can actually tell what these are from several feet away which typically isn't the case. These make for one of the more impressive nano fish. And speaking of nano, we had a solid week of incoming for shrimp. Not only did we get restocks on Cherry and Sunkists but we got in what are probably the nicest Red Fires I have ever seen. Huge with super rich color. And if none of that suits your fancy we got in a nice array of brackish species including Spotted Puffers, Knight Gobies, Mono Sebaes and Marble Moray Eels. This should just about fill anyone's brackish water department.
A lot of nice Florida raised fish as usual but I'll have to say this week's winner has to be the Rainbows. Just about every home grown variety is looking great this week. My biggest surprise are the Parkinsoni (these are in desperate need of a better name). Color is so bright on these I had to do a double take because at first i thought they were Deep Water Creeks. Bigger than usual and I promise you won't be disappointed with these. And while I've mentioned these a few times the Assorted All Male mix is one of the best values out there. Yes they are a bit more money but you will be able to ask for more money as there aren't any females tying up space. Solid mix of Turquoise, Yellow and some of the best looking Bosemanis there are. And I definitely don't want to leave out their little cousins as the Celebese, Furcata and Signifer also look amazing this week. If you haven't tried any these dwarf species before you should. They sell really well especially when they're this nice. Big demand for these right now as a lot of people are converting to "nano" set-ups.
And for those of you that read this with any frequency you know I can barely go a week without talking about some Florida raised Cichlids. I'm gonna start with one that I can promise no one will see coming, medium Firemouths. Size is all over the place with these but in a good way. The smallest ones are what I would consider to be typical medium size but the range all the way up to small adults. And let's not forget the color. Some of these are as bright as I have ever seen. Fare warning these guys fade in transit but after having a day or two to settle in you'll see what I'm talking about. Another usual suspect which is an absolute stunner this week is the Select Salvini. I'll just let the pic down below do the talking as I won't need to waste any more typing once you've seen these.
And no email would be complete without talking about some good ole Rift Lake beauties. Topping my list this week is one many of you have been taking advantage of due to the price point, large Blue Dolphin Hap Moorii. These are way too cheap and are sure to go up in price. Look at the pic down below and you'll agree. Do NOT use a baseline margin to mark these up. Best of rule a thumb is to price a fish on what you can get for it, not what you paid for it. Along those same lines are the large assorted Haps. Same principle here. And you can take it a step even further and cherry pick out some of the nicer males and ask for more i.e. Livingstoni and Venustus. And for those of you that have some die hard hobbyist clientele we got in Phenochilus Star Sapphires. This is one of the most heavily sought after Hap types. Develops on of the most insane spangling coloration of any fish on the planet. Well worth the wait as it takes quite some time for these guys to reach maturity.

| GloFish® Moonrise Pink® Cories pic taken with an iPhone. These little guys look amazing under any conditions! |
| Got one very large (around 14") Silver Arowana available to one lucky individual. been here for a few weeks at least and is eating and doing perfect. No risk of losing this guy, and would make a great display fish too. |
| Pinktail Chalceus came back in this week. Size continues to be excellent on these, about 4 inches or so with bright red tails. |
| The "regular" pikes are a little special this week. These are smaller versions of the "striped pike" we have available at Medium size. We probably should have raised the price a little bit, but we don't have time to do that, so our limitation is your gain. |
| Peruvian Blue tetras are at least twice the size of the Indo imports that we usually get in. These are well acclimated and stunning. |
| Lima Shovelnose might be the biggest to have ever come through here. Hard to tell from the pic but these are at a third bigger than what's usually available. |
| Wild Julii Cories are much bigger than the tank raised that are typically around. These are perfect for anyone looking to set up a breeding project with pure bloodlines. |
| Farlowellas came in great size on average. While some are a bit smaller, none are puny, and some are gigantic like this one. |
| A face only a mother could love. And even that might be a stretch lol. Peru Banjo Cats are huge and perfect. This is a pic of an actual individual from the current group taken by our resident photographer Bob. |
| New Blood Parrots are about twice the size of the last batch. That's the tricky thing with these is that we order the same item number every time but we never know quite what to expect. This week they are very nice with rich red coloration and some individuals even displaying some black peppering on the body and fins. |
| Electric Blue Dempseys have been coming in with a bit more consistency lately but not sure how long that will last. These tend to disappear for months at a time so you may want to stock up before we're into full blown busy season. |
| Sticking with the electric blue theme Electric Blue rams also got a much needed restock this week. Unlike some of the other far east versions of South American Cichlids this strain always has vibrant color and almost always hold up incredibly well. These do tend to prefer soft water conditions to look more vibrant. |
| At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the smaller the better when it comes to the Spotted Puffers. This is relevant to both acclimation and cuteness factors. At a this size they settle in very quickly and the look like little gumballs floating around the tank. They practically sell themselves. |
| Not sure why but the Knight Gobies have been coming in as absolute beasts for the past few months. In the past I would be apprehensive about this as the larger ones typically take longer to acclimate but that hasn't been the case up to this point. So far they've been adjusting just fine upon arrival. |
| Mono Sebaes are completely acclimated and while we do have them on a bit of salt it isn't a very high percentage. I have had good success with these so long as they were kept under high pH alkaline conditions. That makes them perfect for our liquid concrete water parameters down here lol. |
| Glass Cats got a restock this week and so far so good. As most of you know these guys can often be a bit touchy at first but once they settle in they tend do |
| Zebra Loaches are back in stock but as usual probably not for very long. Seems as though we can never get enough of these and they almost always disappear within a week's time so grab some while you can. |
| Got in a new batch of Redtail Blue Botias this week and like always they are looking super solid. These are fantastic at nuisance snail population control and are assertive enough to be kept with larger, aggressive Cichlids. They are adaptable to most water parameters so they do well in both African and South American environments. |
| Still have a couple (literally two or three) 8" Royal Clown Knives here on the farm. These have been here long enough to be well acclimated and eating like champs. These are make for one of the most impressive display specimens as adults. These are surprisingly peaceful so long as they are kept with tankmates that are to big to be swallowed. |
| Kohaku Koi (red & white) Swords are running bigger than normal this week and there are actually a handful of lyretails in the mix. Full transparency there literally are just a few don't be expecting them to all look like this but you might get lucky and score a couple. |
| Sanke Koi Swords are running about the same size as usual however the overall color and contrast is a bit brighter and there are actually males in the group (these usually tend to be almost all female). |
| Redtail Crystal Platies look to be a different strain than what we have been getting in the past and I must say I am not disappointed. Very unique appearance on these with a much different contrast than usual. |
| Parkinsoni Rainbows are looking absolutely amazing this week. Well oversize and the color is about as bright as it gets. One of the most underrated species in the family. |
| Pretty much all of the "nano" Rainbow species are looking great this week. Pictures here are the Signifers, but the Celebese and Furcatus are equally outstanding. |
| Red Honey Gouramis came in extra bright this week. Super neat dwarf species and not as quarrelsome as some of it's cousins. |
| Large assorted gouramis are truly massive, and an awesome addition to any store. We used to get these a few years ago, but since then we haven't been offered them. I'm very glad to see them come back, they were always super super popular. Those of you that always ask us if any of the gouramis are running bigger this week, I expect to see 24 of these on all of your orders. |
| Hoplo Cats this week came out of our very own ponds and they are huge! Most are running 5"+. If you aren't familiar with these they are basically giant Cory Cats, which quite honestly would make for a better name. Even as full grown adults they are peaceful enough to be kept with smaller species including Tetras. |
| Medium Leon Blue Eye Bushynose are expected later today. These have become the hottest selling variety of all the Ancistrus types and move even better at a larger size. |
| Ember Teras are about as big and as bright as they get. These are far east raised at the moment are as vibrant as can be. One of the hardiest nano Tetras on the market. |
| Yes I pictured a male here but this is out of the mixed sex Congos. On average these are running very large with some of the males displaying full fin extensions. These would make for a wonderful center piece in a planted aquarium display. |
| Penguins are nice and solid this week. One of my all time favorites and an extra bonus to these guys is that they spend much of their time up at the surface which is often unused space by most other species. |
Diamonds are running above average in size this week. These pair vey nicely with the still super awesome Black Phantoms we have in stock.
| Pastel or Gold Neons are back up in size after running a bit small for the past several weeks. These have a very different look to them and won't cannibalize your regular Neon Tetra sales. |
| Select Salvini might be the nicest in terms of overall size and color I've seen come through here. This was just a random pull and not singled out for being the best looking of the bunch. They all look fantastic. |
| Don't get me wrong, I'm all for new & exciting species to come in every week but sometimes I find exceptional specimens of a common species equally as exciting and that's what we have this week with the medium Firemouths. Size is very good ranging from what you would expect to "how is that not being sold as a large". There are some absolute chonkers in the mix and I personally would recommend separating those out and sell them at a higher price point. They're well worth it and people will pay the difference. |
| An example of what I was referring to in the previous slide. This guy is wider than my hand. Color is faded due to being in one of the vats outside but they'll color up they second they warm up. |
| Large Green Terrors continue to be one of the more impressive Central/Southies available. These were always one of my best selling "Big Bruisers" when I was in retail and I guarantee that's still the case. |
| New larger size on Green Severums came in today. We're calling these Mediums, they're roughly 2.5-3 inches. Already showing a lot of red coloration in the face area and in spots on the body so they're not too far off from being beautiful centerpiece fish for any community tank. |
| Deppii are one of the lesser known Central Americans out there but I can guarantee there are Cichlid enthusiasts always on the hunt for these. |
| Med Red Nyererei are back after a brief hiatus. If you haven't heard my speech on these dollar for dollar this might be the best looking freshwater fish commonly available. this isn't even as bright as they get. Perfect colors for the upcoming holiday season. |
| I showed a number of the bigger species in the large assorted Hap mix last week but I wanted to show some of the smaller varieties also in that batch. Got a handful of really nice Victorians including this male Rock Krib. Not huge like some of the Nimbochromis species in the mix but certainly just as colorful and just as good of a value. |
| Got a new batch of 2" assorted Assorted Peacocks in this week on one of the far east shipments. Like always there are more than just peacocks in the mix as is clearly demonstrated by the Electric Blue Ahli in the middle of the pic. Always a nice blend of species and color variants. Lotta bang for the buck. |
| Got a handful of "Show" Peacocks available this week. Got these from one of our local vendors that he had held back for potential future projects but has decided to go in a different direction. Only a coupe available like this but these truly are "Show" pieces. |
| Premium OB Peacocks still have tons of nice individuals for us to pick out for you. They're all great size and even better color. |
| Large Fancy Mbuna are still looking excellent. Have some great fish in there that you wouldn't ever get in the standard large mix, so definitely worth the extra price. |
| In much less exciting african news, don't forget about the staples! Socolofi have been a mainstay in the hobby for decades for a good reason. It's hard to get as much blue into a freshwater tank for less money. |
| Another example of a nice pigeonblood in the 2.5-3 inch mix. The 2.5 inch pigeonbloods on the list specifically you can definitely tell the difference on. The smaller size ones don't have the pigeonblood patterning over their whole body yet, only on the front half. |
| Another example of a beautiful fish in the 2.5-3 inch mix we were talking about at the top of the email. It's crazy to me that the breeder will put Leopards in our mix at a larger size for a cheaper price than when we order Leopards specifically, but hey, someone will get lucky and snag this guy out of the mix and that's awesome. |
| This week's batch of Red Fire Shrimp might be the nicest I've ever seen anywhere, period. Size is huge and color is outstanding. They have very cool looking lighter colored stripes down their back that adds a lot of color and interest to them. |
| Sunkist Shrimp got a restock this week and have a nice bright orange hue to them. |
